about the artist

I love having fun, learning new things, making people smile, and telling stories. I love seeing life through fun angles. I enjoy inspiring others as well as being inspired by others. I have the most supportive husband, best friend, and partner. We enjoy hiking, traveling, our furry kids, snowboarding, weddings, and of course, photography.

I love weddings.  Weddings are filled with thoughtful details and emotions, and I love capturing those precious memories. I love telling vivid wedding stories. I put my heart into every photo, so you will see personality, new perspectives, a great story, and life in my photos.

I work unobtrusively, using my mix of photojournalism, candid, and fine-art portraiture style.  I document those important moments with the most interesting, truthful and beautiful perspective.  I understand how much time and thought is put into each wedding - that’s why it is so important to me that you to experience your big day all over again every time you see your pictures.

The opportunity to capture your memories and tell the story of such a special day is truly an honor to me. I enjoy developing relationships with each couple, which allows me to make each set truly unique & memorable.

This blog is where I will update my most recent photos along with random bits from my life. It is a casual place to get to know each other. If there are specific photos you want to see more of, you can click on the categories at the top to see photos of that category. I hope you find what you’re looking for here. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments!  I’d love to hear from you!

boudoir-01

In the spirit of this past Valentine’s weekend, I thought I would spice it up around here.  I haven’t share any boudoir sessions in a while, so I was ecstatic when she allowed me to share these photos from her session!  She gave these to her fiance as his Valentine’s Day gift.  Lucky guy!  I always say this and I’ll say it again, but as great of a gift these make for others, it’s ultimately a gift for yourself.  When I did mine, I had never appreciated myself more than I did at that moment.   I felt empowered and it was all about having fun and just embracing myself for who I am.  Okay, enough talking.  Let me give you a little peak into our shoot…

the-french-laundry-01

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!  Hope you all had a great one!  I originally was planning to blog a steamy hot boudoir session today, but so many people have contacted me asking how our weekend trip went that I felt I need to blog this now.  Stay tuned for some hot boudoir later this week!

Let me start off this post with saying that no, this is not how we normally eat!  Eating at The French Laundry has been one of the things on our bucket list.  Jonathan was just explaining to me the very few (and difficult) ways of getting reservations – if you’re curious, you can read about it here and on the cute gastronomy couple’s blog.  We were thinking of trying within the next few years when Ngoc of Sky Box Events announces that she is giving away her reservations!  Jonathan wakes me up one morning last week to tell me that we’re going!  whee!  Luckily, I purposely didn’t book anything this long weekend (in case we wanted to go snowboarding), so we immediately booked our flights and off we went to Yountville in Napa Valley!

the-french-laundry-02

They grow all their own produce in this charming garden across the street.  I love that tree & bench!  We spent a lot of time sitting there before and after our nearly 4 hour meal.

the-french-laundry-04

I think garlic was their most abundant crop, which would not be surprising at all.

the-french-laundry-06

They also have a quaint little courtyard for you to hang out in when you take a break from your meal.  (no joke!)

the-french-laundry-08

The pretty blue door entrance:  (see us in the reflection?)

the-french-laundry-10

the-french-laundry-12

First up were these cheese balls (please excuse me, I don’t remember the proper & full names).  They were really warm and fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside.  Up second was salmon tartare on creme fraiche, wrapped in a cute cone.  The food tastes as good as it’s presented!

the-french-laundry-14

Cauliflower “panna cotta” – with island creek oyster glaze and california sturgeon caviar:

the-french-laundry-16

Salty, creamy, and a little sweet!  The cute little spoon (made of mother of pearl?) was the perfect size to enjoy this delicacy.   I LOVE this next photo:

the-french-laundry-17

And next, we had bread (from Bouchon Bakery) – it was to die for.  It was crisp on the outside & fluffy on the inside.  Slightly buttery like a croissant.  We were also given two choices of butter:  plain butter locally made or salted butter from Vermont.  Both were good, but I absolutely LOVED the salted butter.  (salted butter in the silver dish.)  I also love this next photo:

the-french-laundry-18

Up until this point, Jonathan and I have had the same thing.  This next dish is where we each got something different off the chef’s tasting menu.  I got the Sacramento delta green asparagus:  buttermilk-fried onion rings, Jidori hen egg & frisee:

the-french-laundry-20

Jonathan got the moulard duck foie gras en terrine – yogurt glaze, hosui pear, scallion, hazelnuts and vanilla-bay leaf essence.  The brioche alone was heavenly!  And the vanilla-bay leaf essence jelly thing was so so good!  The subtle sweetness was incredible.

the-french-laundry-22

We also got a selection of fancy salts, perfectly presented of course.

the-french-laundry-24

I forget which salt is which now.  From what I remember, one is called Jurrasic.  Maybe it’s the one in the oval container?  Really ancient and fine, so it tastes saltier.  The gray one is from deep under the sea, so it has a more mineral flavor.  And I forget what the third is.  Educate me if you know please!

the-french-laundry-26

Next I had a sauteed fillet of Japanese blue-fin tuna – young coconut, pearl tapioca, English cucumber, cilantro and madras curry… pictured left:

the-french-laundry-28

On the right is Florida everglades frog legs – green garlic gratin, San Marzano tomato compote and Spanish capers.  The crispy frog legs were my favorite of the above two dishes.

the-french-laundry-30

And what you just saw above was an unbelievable “blanquette” of Maine diver scallops with French Laundry garden white carrots, celery branch and black trumpet mushrooms.  I savored every last bite of this.  So so good!

the-french-laundry-32

The above left is the four story hill harm milk-fed “poularde” – navel orange, nicoise olive, piperade and pernod “nuage”.  Very tasty!  The navel oranges mixed really well.  On the right is “mosaic” of devil’s gulch ranch rabbit – Hobbs’ bacon, royal blenheim apricot, arrowleaf spinach, sunchokes, sunflower seeds and tarragon jus.  This was a saltier dish compared to the poularde.

the-french-laundry-33

Okay, so why is this random photo of the farm here?  We were starting to get full, so we took a break.  We took a little stroll around their garden and watched them prepare all the vegetables.  :)

the-french-laundry-37

And then we were ready to resume.  The breads from Bouchon was so yummy!  Above is a walnut bread and below is a black currant bread.

the-french-laundry-39

And up next may be my favorite of the main courses.  “Chateaubriand” of Marcho farms nature-fed veal – “pommes darphin,” red beets, Brussels sprouts, horseradish, and sauce borscht.  The veal was so tender and juicy.  It came with a little hash brown like thing too that was so crispy and yummy!

the-french-laundry-40

This next one is one of my favorite photos from the day.  It’s an “Idiazabal” – basically a baklava with green apples, Sicilian pistachio, white honey & watercress.  I forget what kind of cheese it came with.  Anyone can educate me?

the-french-laundry-41

Next is not the most photogenic dish, but it was Jonathan & I’s absolute FAVORITE:  “Pisco Sour” – Persian lime sorbet, frozen marshmellow, passion fruit pulp, and Angostura bitters.  It was so refreshing!  Tart, cold, and just divine.  It was the perfect treat to cleanse our palettes to prepare us for the flurry of desserts that was about to come our way!  The first of them being this pineapple tart.   There was cake inside too!

the-french-laundry-43

This next one I’ll go a little backwards.  On the left is a bakewell tart – huckleberries, marcona almonds and creme fraiche sherbet.  Tart and sweet!

the-french-laundry-45

Above left and below is the peanut butter “bavarois” – cruncy feuilletine, maralumi milk chocolate whip & Gros Michel banana sorbet.  Very delicious!  And the inside of the chocolate ball delicately housed two peanuts.

the-french-laundry-47

And as if that wasn’t enough, they brought out truffles!  Pictured below is a citrus one.  The also had a hazelnut one (to the left) that I really liked and a peanut butter one (centered left) that could send me to heaven.

the-french-laundry-49

Below is Jonathan’s plate at the end… he doesn’t like raisins.  My plate was clean!  Sadly, they also gave us these AMAZING toffee covered macadamia nuts but we were too full!  I forced myself to eat two of them because they were so darn good, but my stomach was filled to the brim!

the-french-laundry-51

And I love how everything is so novelty there.  Our bill even came as a laundry tag.  Though I must admit, the novelty was ruined a little bit for me towards the second half of our meal, when some VIP regulars ended up sitting at the tables beside us.  We were in a small room with 3 tables, we were one, and the VIPs occupied the other two tables.  The staff and even Thomas Keller knew them and they talked like they frequent The French Laundry quite a bit.  It took the “specialness” out a little for me, but nonetheless, it was still an amazing experience!   I’d do it again!  *looking at Jonathan’s reaction*  haha.  And lastly, a self portrait of us.  hehe.

the-french-laundry-52

Thanks Ngoc for the reservations!!!

trash the dress | irene + jerome

trash-the-dress-01

For those who are married, you know how fast the day comes and go.  And like Jonathan did to me before our wedding, he broke down my dress’s hourly rate, which made me really want to do something with it again.  Irene and Jerome understood this well and booked a day after session/trash the dress before their wedding.  Upon their return from their honeymoon, they got all dressed up again and we spent an afternoon romping around!

trash-the-dress-03

It was the perfect fall afternoon here in LA.  Since photography, I notice so much more of my surroundings now, like this leaves-covered floor!

Next is one of my favorite shots!  I actually have a canvas of this hanging above my door in my office.  Every time I leave the office, I look up and laugh.

Aren’t they just so sweet?  I love day-after sessions because they’re freshly newly weds.  I love those moments where they realize “you’re my wife (or husband)!  Whoa, weird to use that word.”  Weird in a totally good way of course, but I love the giddiness that usually comes after the realization.

los angeles wedding photography | julie + will

Just a quick update.  Things have been super busy here, so I apologize if you emailed me and haven’t heard back yet.  I just got back from SF and catching up on emails.  I met up with two former students while in SF!  They’re going to college now and came out to hang out for half the day.  It’s so weird to see how much they’ve grown and matured since.  Another great news is that Jen & I received A LOT of entries to our love shoot contest.  We’re still going through them and planning to make an announcement next week.  Stay tuned!

los-angeles-wedding-photo-01

Today, I wanted to share Julie and Will’s cute intimate wedding.  Family and friends flew in from all over the world to celebrate with them.  Will’s brother came from Australia and rented out a cute little house for them to get ready at.

I love that photo above of Julie with her grandma!

los-angeles-wedding-photo-11

And I also love the above photo of Julie with her mom.  Isn’t her mom just the cutest?  Love her outfit!  Susie Chhuor is the one behind the perfect makeup & hair!  It’s always great to work with her.

los-angeles-wedding-photo-12

My favorite flower is now again dahlias.  When I first researched flowers for our wedding, I fell in love with dahlias, but somehow through the process, I forgot about them. When I saw Julie’s flowers, I jumped with glee.  They’re so colorful & happy!  I just love everything about their flowers, especially this bouquet and their centerpieces!  The genius behind the flowers is the brilliant Clover of Dandelion Ranch.

And then the anticipation before the ceremony begins…

After a touching ceremony, they’re officially husband and wife!  Yippee!  You can see how happy everyone is for them.  Love these huge group shots!

Then we headed to Campanile for the reception.  It was an intimate affair with the most darling flowers.

I want my house full of dahlias!

Thank you to the 300+ people who came out last night to our open house party!  From the bottom of my heart, thank you.  Thank you for all the continued support.  I had such an amazing time hanging out with old friends and meeting new friends!  I really don’t even know where to begin to express my gratitude.  There were 100+ more attendees than we expected, so there weren’t enough swag bags to go around.  For the lucky few who did get our bag of goodies, you should have received a calendar I made, shown below.   I printed extra cards, but had ran out of cases.  Since I have extra cards, I will be ordering more cases and would like to offer them for sale.  Profits will go to the American Red Cross.  The calendar starts in Feb 2010 and goes to Jan 2011.  First come, first serve, so get them while you can.

ceremony2010-25

Just click on the above “add to cart” and it’ll take you a paypal page where you can check out. Make sure to give me your mailing address!

And now on with some photos from our open house party.  I didn’t take much though.  I had the camera for maybe 15 minutes, but wanted to talk to all the fabulous people who came instead.  Jonathan ended up taking the camera away from me and I just enjoyed everyone’s company.

ceremony2010-1

For those who don’t know what this event was all about, there are 7 event professionals in my building.  We all joined forces to host a collaborative open house party – all three floors were open to our guests.  I welcome you to the open house of:

ceremony2010-2

The amazing decor & flowers were done by Euri & Kendra of Fleuretica.  I love their welcome sign and the LOVE sign!  Major thanks to Jack from The Music Man Productions for the awesome lighting!  And I’m sure you’re tired of seeing my frame wall my now, but here it is again.

ceremony2010-4

I LOVE these adorable arrangements by Fleuretica!   I want them permanently in my office!

ceremony2010-6

This next photo is a wall that I don’t show very much of.  It’s our TV cabinet.  The decor above was set up by Tracy from The Flower Tray, with fresh flowers added by Fleuretica.  I LOVE the flowers in the coffee can by Fleuretica.  Euri was kind enough to let me rummage through their van for extra flowers and I put together the arrangements in the milk glass!  Not as fancy as theirs, but I had a lot of fun doing it!

ceremony2010-8

And here is our desk area:

ceremony2010-9

I was hoping to get a photo of the space empty, but it never was empty.  I loved what a full house it was!  I also love the new canvas I put up in the office.

ceremony2010-10

A lot of people commented how they hadn’t seen that photo on my blog yet.  Well, I just haven’t blogged that wedding yet.  :)   I loved the photo so much that I made a canvas of it before I even finished editing the wedding.  lol.  So in case you wanted a better view of the photo, here it is:

tree-web

It’s one of my favorite wedding photos.

ceremony2010-12

We also had THE BEST macaroons by Joie Pastisserie!  The caramel & sea salt one was AMAZING!!  I took a bunch home and had them for dinner & breakfast today!

ceremony2010-14

We also had super cute & yummy pastries by Lotus Culinary Creations.

ceremony2010-16

ceremony2010-18

I loved how Fleuretica hung the mason jars along the brick wall.

ceremony2010-19

DJ and MC was by the fabulous Eugene from Zuno Productions.  And the endless flow of alcohol & food was by the ever so awesome Huntington Catering.

ceremony2010-20

And finally, the fantastic team of Sky Box Event Productions who kept the party flowing seamlessly!

ceremony2010-22

We really wanted our goodie bags to be filled with great swag, so here are some of the items that were given out:
